Chocolate World Record Attempt for Charity

Luton, Bedfordshire, UK – 15th March 2010 – Piers Morgan couldn’t manage it and neither could hopeful contestant James Boyd on last year’s Britain’s Got Talent television show. This Saturday, 20th March 2010, members of the public will be able to find out if they have what it takes as Luton Indoor Market is playing host to a Guinness World Record Attempt for the most Ferrero Rocher chocolates eaten in one minute. Open to anyone over the age of 18, the record attempt is being held to raise money for the Luton and Dunstable Children’s/Baby Intensive Care Unit. Dave Gibbs, market manager with Town and Country Markets, explained: “At Christmas we had a go at breaking the world record for eating sprouts and fell far below the target, but we did raise £300 for the hospital’s children’s ward.” “We’re all keen to try and clinch a Guinness World Record and with Easter fast approaching the obvious choice was chocolate. “We understand that the current record stands at eight of the chocolates being consumed in one minute. This was set by Chris Vollmershausen in Toronto, Canada last summer. “The rules for the attempt are quite strict and they stipulate that the chocolates cannot be unwrapped before the minute starts; each one has to be completely swallowed (and witnessed) before the next one is consumed and the contestants aren’t allowed water during the challenge.” The record attempts takes place between 12.00 and 4.00pm in the market hall, located inside The Mall and the general public are welcome to take part. Would-be world record holders can register their interest before the event by emailing Dave Gibbs on davegibbs@luton-market.co.uk or simply turn up on the day and fill out an entry form. Gibbs continued: “Although it is free to enter, we are trying to raise money for a good cause, so we would be delighted if contestants and the assembled crowd can make donations, however small.” “I know that the children, their parents and the hospital staff will be very appreciative.” Visit http://www.TCmarkets.co.uk for further details.
