Finnish consumers perceive Paulig to be the most sustainable beverage brand
For the fifth year in a row, Paulig is perceived as the most sustainable brand within the beverage industry, according to Finnish consumers in The Sustainable Brand Index™ (SBI) survey. The result proves that Paulig’s long-term sustainability work and cooperation throughout the value chain bring value also to consumers.
Paulig is a forerunner in the coffee industry’s sustainability work and is progressing systematically with the implementation of its ambitious sustainability targets, based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“We are delighted that consumers appreciate our sustainability efforts, which span the entire value chain from coffee farming to coffee roasting, packaging development, and consumer inspiration. Our ambitious sustainability work will continue to ensure the bright future of coffee and livelihood of the coffee farmers,” says Kaisa Lipponen, SVP Communications and Sustainability at Paulig.
Examples of Paulig’s sustainability work in the coffee category
- As one of the few large roasteries in the world, Paulig sources coffee only from sources that have been verified as sustainable by third-party partners.
- Through our long-term sustainability work in the coffee value chain, we have been able to contribute to the livelihoods of more than 100,000 coffee farmers in the countries of origin.
- Paulig roasts its coffee in Finland in its two roasteries, which have achieved the CarbonNeutral® building certificate.
- We aim to reduce the climate impact of coffee value chain and we have climate projects in Brazil, Colombia, and Nicaragua to accelerate sustainable farming practices.
- The Paulig Mundo coffee family has a CarbonNeutral® product certification in accordance with the CarbonNeutral Protocol. The total emissions of the carbon-neutral coffee are offset through Climate Impact Partners by supporting forest projects in the coffee origins that have been verified according to international standards, for example Colombia and Brazil.
- Packaging development is one of the key focus areas for Paulig. We have made a MEUR 25 investment in Vuosaari to enable recyclable coffee packaging and improve efficiency.
- We are supporting the development of new climate-resistant coffee crops. Paulig’s venture arm, PINC, invested in the French startup Amatera, an innovative biotech platform for the sustainable cultivation of perennial crops.
- Our target is to halve the food loss in our value chain by 2030. In 2023, we started a new collaboration with a Finnish startup startup Natural Indigo that produces natural dyes on an industrial scale from the side streams of Paulig’s coffee production.
