Paulig cuts greenhouse gas emissions on coffee deliveries from Finland to the Baltics in collaboration with Neste and DSV
Food and beverage company Paulig, together with Neste and DSV, is replacing 87% of the fossil diesel use in Paulig’s coffee deliveries from Helsinki, Finland, to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with renewable diesel to reduce the company’s greenhouse gas emissions. DSV trucks delivering Paulig coffee from Helsinki to the Baltics switched to Neste MY Renewable Diesel in October 2021.
More than 500 truckloads of Paulig coffee are delivered from Helsinki to the Baltic countries annually. Switching to Neste MY Renewable DieselTM will reduce the carbon footprint of Paulig’s deliveries by up to 90%* compared to fossil diesel use. This translates into 84,000 kilos of saved well-to-wheel lifecycle emissions annually.
In this collaboration, the amount of renewable diesel currently covers up to 87% of all of Paulig’s coffee deliveries from Finland to the Baltics.
“We are happy to announce this collaboration as this is the first concrete action in reducing Paulig’s greenhouse gas emissions from logistics in the Baltics. Paulig’s ambitious climate targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. Our aim is to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from our own operations by 80% and from the value chain by 50% by 2030,” says Rogier Verkarre, Director, Operations & Logistics, Paulig.
”We are committed to reducing the company's logistics emissions by 25% from the 2018 baseline by 2025. Paulig’s logistics are exclusively carried out by partners, so we can only achieve this target in collaboration with operators like DSV who aim to use renewable fuels for road transport to accelerate decarbonisation,” Verkarre adds.
DSV and Paulig have partnered in logistics services since 2001 and this new initiative, together with Neste, takes the collaboration to a new and important area. Strategic partnerships are the key enablers in growing sustainable businesses.
”At DSV, we play our part in taking responsibility for moving the transport sector towards a more sustainable future. Paulig is the first customer for DSV in both Finland and the Baltics to switch to renewable fuels. We are proud to be part of the collaboration with Paulig and Neste, making the supply chain more sustainable,” says Jurkka Mäkelä, Senior Director, Sales and Marketing at DSV.
“In addition to reducing our own carbon footprint, our climate target is to help our customers reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. We are proud to collaborate with Paulig and DSV in the Baltics to reach these goals together, and I am happy to see we share the same ambition and values in sustainability. By partnering, we can take concrete actions towards a carbon neutral future,” says Heidi Peltonen, Team Lead, Sustainable Partnerships, Marketing & Services at Neste.

Of Paulig’s coffee, 100% is already sustainably sourced, and the company’s coffee roasteries in Helsinki and Porvoo are carbon neutral.
