The new Pulled Oats® – less salt, without compromising taste

Gold&Green Foods made good even better by renewing the recipe of the Finnish Pulled Oats. There is no salt used in the manufacturing of Pulled Oats® Nude, making the list of ingredients even shorter than before. Also Pulled Oats® Tomato has been granted with the Finnish Heart Symbol, as a sign of it’s health benefits. In addition to having a more balanced nutritional content, the texture of new Pulled Oats® is even more juicy and delicious than before. All Pulled Oats® products are packed with fibre and protein but are low in saturated fat.

Most Finns consume too much salt. According to the FinDiet 2017 nutrition survey, up to nine out of ten adults in Finland consume more salt than what is recommended. In addition, 70% of the population consumes too little fibre and 95% too much saturated fat. One in five Finns already consider low salt content an important factor in their food choices, and up to one in four Finns value high fibre content (Mintel 2021). Reducing salt intake contributes to maintaining normal blood pressure, as part of a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle.

The recipe for Pulled Oats® was renewed to meet the wishes of home chefs and professional kitchens to find healthier plant-based protein products with less salt. In addition to the unflavoured Pulled Oats® Nude, also Pulled Oats® Tomato has been granted with the Heart Symbol, which indicates that the product is a better option for the health. There is no salt used in the manufacturing of Pulled Oats® Nude, making the list of ingredients even shorter than before. The product is made with solely naturally nutritious ingredients: oats, peas, faba beans and gently pressed rapeseed oil, without any unnecessary ingredients. Salt content of 0.52 g/100 g is exclusively due to the presence of naturally occurring sodium in the ingredients. The average salt content of other unflavoured meat substitutes on the market is 1.3 g/100 g.

“We made the good even better. Oats growing in the pure Nordic nature and naturally nutritious ingredients form the basis of our products, and we constantly develop our products to genuinely promote the well-being of people and the planet. As a pioneer in the Finnish plant-based protein market, Pulled Oats Nude was in fact one of the first plant-based protein products to earn the Heart Symbol in 2019, and we are very happy that our tomato-flavoured product now also meets these health criteria,” says Maija Itkonen, co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Gold&Green Foods.

Meat consumption in Finland has decreased for two years (Natural Resources Institute Finland 2021) and many Finns are increasingly interested in replacing animal proteins with plant-based protein products. However, the mere fact of being plant-based is not a guarantee of the healthiness, as many plant-based protein products contain surprisingly high levels of salt. Pulled Oats® Nude contains 61% less salt than other unflavoured meat substitutes on the market, and Pulled Oats® Tomato contains 48% less salt than other flavoured meat substitutes on the market in Finland.

All Pulled Oats® products are packed with fibre and protein but are low in saturated fat. In addition to having a more balanced nutritional content, the texture of the new Pulled Oats® is even more juicy and delicious than before. The simple cooking instructions have remained the same and the products can be used as usual in all of your favourite recipes. The renewed Pulled Oats® will be launched in retail products in Finland from February, and for professional kitchen products later in spring 2022.

The award-winning protein product invites everyone to take part in solving the environmental crisis

Pulled Oats® is a well-known Finnish innovation that has found its place in Finnish mealtimes. In December 2021, the creators of Pulled Oats®, together with the developers of Härkis, were presented with the first ever Blue Globe environmental award in recognition of their pioneering work in solving the environmental crisis and permanently changing Finnish eating habits. In recognition of its sustainability, Pulled Oats® was also granted with the international SEAL (Sustainability, Environmental Achievement and Leadership) Sustainable Product Award in December.

Food is one of the easiest ways for individual consumers to influence their own well-being and the well-being of the planet. Now, in honour of Veganuary, Gold&Green invites everyone in Finland to join them in changing the world one delicious meal at a time.
