New envelope-first service helps make buildings more energy-efficient, comfortable

Pella EFCO Commercial Solutions will introduce their new industry-leading tool, Pella EFCO Envelope Analysis service, at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Expo, June 26 – 28 in Chicago. AIA attendees can visit booth #1053 at McCormick Place to learn more about the service, along with innovative products and educational sessions offered by Pella and EFCO.

Holistic solution to energy management

Taking a holistic approach to analyzing the building envelope, Pella EFCO Commercial Solutions’ Envelope Analysis is designed to optimize building performance through energy savings, enhanced aesthetics and increased occupant comfort. Using the Pella EFCO Envelope Analysis service, architects, building owners and facility managers are able to help extend building life, improve energy efficiency and protect against potential air and water damage.

“Pella EFCO Commercial Solutions offers a whole-building analysis, truly unique from the component approach,” said Director of Commercial Business Development, Doug Phelps, for Pella. “Using Envelope Analysis, we’re able to analyze and run ‘what-if’ scenarios to compare potential envelope improvements in terms of energy savings, occupant comfort, and building aesthetics. Every project has specific goals, and we are able to support the project team with flexible, real-time analysis."

Occupant comfort considered in envelope analysis

Pella EFCO Commercial Solutions’ Envelope Analysis is the first building envelope service to visualize, analyze and provide recommendations for occupant comfort, in addition to energy savings and aesthetics.

"Before envelope analysis, our customers would tell us their spaces felt more comfortable after replacing windows. By adding an analysis of occupant comfort into the envelope analysis service, we can now quantify that improvement and also show a projected energy savings to the bottom line," said Phelps.

Envelope analysis identifies potential problem areas and offers solutions to make buildings more energy-efficient and comfortable. With analysis support provided by The Weidt Group, the Pella EFCO Envelope Analysis service leverages some of the best technology available in software today for computing hourly energy simulations, according to David Eijadi, Principal in Charge of Energy for The Weidt Group.

Phelps said Pella EFCO Commercial Solutions worked with owners of The Wrigley Building in Chicago to optimize the building envelope from the outside in, delivering a solution that increased the building’s energy efficiency and comfort, while supporting the architect's objective to return the building to its original iconic aesthetics.
