Plagazi AB and Neue Energien Premnitz GmbH (NEP) have founded the SPV for Premnitz Hydrogen Park in Germany known as the "Havelstoff-Projekt", accelerating the project development into the next phase. The new joint venture company, SPV Premnitz Hydrogen Park GmbH,  will manage the process of attaining the environmental permits necessary to start building the facility that will produce approximately 7’500 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. NEP will provide the local infrastructure and feedstock whilst Plagazi AB will take responsibility for the permitting process.

The project purpose is to construct a plasma gasification plant for the thermal treatment of waste and industrial production of up to 7’500 tons of fuel-cell grade hydrogen using Plagazi’s technological and process-related patents. Neue Energien Premnitz GmbH, part of the Richter Recycling group, will act as waste supplier for the duration of the project.

The project entails building a first-of-its-kind Plagazi plant in the region of Premnitz, Germany, to help usher in the economic and ecological transformation of the German economy, and act as a trailblazer in the waste-to-hydrogen sector. The German government included waste-to-energy pathways as one of the key pillars to ramp up the hydrogen economy as called out within its updated in its hydrogen strategy in August 2023.

Sweco Germany GmbH will act as consultant for the environmental permit. This workstream now represents the next step, alongside the FEED activities, in the project development timeline. Securing the permit along with establishing political support for the project are crucial in making sure development can continue to ultimately reach project bankability.

“After some time, the project is now making significant progress, and we are very pleased to see such excitement surrounding the potential of Plagazi’s production process as well as NEP’s strong network and established presence in the region of Premnitz. Working alongside them as well as Sweco on this project really emphasises our respective strengths and capabilities to deliver on crucial aspects to make sure the project can become reality. It is a very exciting step forward for not only Plagazi and NEP, but the German hydrogen market as a whole.” – Michael Engsted, CSO Plagazi AB (publ)
