The Patented Plagazi process which efficiently treats non-recyclable waste and converts it into green hydrogen with a negative carbon footprint was attributed the renowned “Solar Impulse Efficient Solution” Label following an assessment performed by external independent experts and based on verified standards. It is thereby joining the #1000solutions challenge, an initiative by the Solar Impulse Foundation to select solutions that meet high standards in profitability and sustainability and present them to decision-makers to fast-track their implementation.

Plagazi's mission is to provide an innovative and competitive green hydrogen production process that significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Plagazi's vision is to set new standards for an improved quality of life by increasing the availability of clean energy and green hydrogen based on managing non-recyclable waste.

To receive the “Solar Impulse Efficient Solution” Label, the Plagazi process was thoroughly assessed by a pool of independent experts according to 5 criteria covering the three main topics: Feasibility, Environmental, and Profitability. All labeled solutions are part of the #1000solutions portfolio that will be presented to decision-makers in business and government by Bertrand Piccard, Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation. The aim of this initiative is to encourage the adoption of more ambitious environmental targets and fast-track the implementation of these solutions on a large scale.

Solar impulse’s panel of independent experts concluded that the Patented Plagazi Process contributes to four of UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (“SDG”), namely: Affordable & Clean Energy (SDG7), Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure (SDG9), Sustainable Cities & Communities (SDG11), and Responsible Consumption & Production (SDG12).

Yes, the solution can deliver an environmental benefit. The purpose is to convert waste, which would be disposed of or burned, into green hydrogen. In comparison to water electrolysis, the conversion is more energy efficient. The required energy can also be derived from the waste and does require external energy like wind or solar. The resulting by-product of CO2 can easily be captured and stored to avoid release into the atmosphere by burning the waste. CCS can also be applied for storage. The plasma process allows for clean processing, which allows for better separation of hydrogen and CO2. In case needed, the CO2 could also be used for new carbon-containing products, thus recycling the carbon content of the waste.” - Expert 1, Solar Impulse Foundation

About the “Solar Impulse Efficient Solution” Label

One of the first labels for positive impact businesses bringing together the protection of the environment and financial viability, the “Solar Impulse Efficient Solution” Label is attributed following an assessment performed by external independent experts. In collaboration with renowned institutions, solutions applying for the label must go through a neutral methodology based on verified standards. This label serves as an award for clean and profitable solutions.

About the Solar Impulse Foundation

The Solar Impulse Foundation is dedicated to accelerating the implementation of clean and profitable solutions. Moreover, the Foundation is helping decision-makers in businesses and governments to achieve their environmental targets and adopt more ambitious energy policies, which are necessary to pull these solutions to market. A way to carry the success of the first solar-powered flight around the world further.
