Simplicity makes next-generation power converter for rail industry run at 93% efficiency
One of Europe’s largest power supply companies, Powerbox, introduces the next generation of innovative power converters – the ENAR150D family. These compact high efficiency DC/DC converters with a typical efficiency of 93% - a product already approved by industry standards. Developed with simplicity in mind, this converter has a proven record and shows excellent design features using a limited number of components – streamlining the functionality with very good predictions of lifetime and MTBF (Mean time between failures).
Thanks to the few components, the ENAR150D is both high reliable and has a very compact size. Along with the H15 connector it is form, fit and function with several of current industry standard products. It is ideal to be used in rack systems or mounted stand-alone and has a width of only 18,5mm, a height of 111mm and a depth of merely 162mm which makes it fit into the Eurocasette system.

The input voltage is 110VDC according to EN50155 standard for the rail industry. The output voltage of the first introduced model of ENAR150 is 2x24 volt / 3,2A. The outputs are isolated and can be used as two different 24 volt sources, connected in parallel for all 150W on one output, in series for 48VDC output or in series with center zero for +/- 24 volt configuration.
The next product in the family will be a 24VDC input version introduced Q4-2014, and later both 48VDC and 72VDC input versions will be available. A dual 12 VDC/DC output version is also planned. Other voltages may be available on request.
The efficiency of the ENAR150D is typical 93%, making it one of the most energy efficient DC/DC converters in this market segment. The operative temperature range is -40 - +70degC (some additional cooling needed above 55degC). ENAR150D series has all relevant approvals for the railway industry as EN50155, 50121-3-2, EN61373 and EN45545.
The ENAR150D family will be displayed at the Railway Industry Fair Innotrans in Berlin, september 23-26 2014, at Powerbox’s stand 108 in Hall 17 and stand 115 Hall 11.1.
