Simplicity makes next-generation power converter for rail industry run at 93% efficiency
One of Europe’s largest power supply companies, Powerbox, introduces the next generation of innovative power converters – the ENAR150D family! Developed with simplicity in mind, this compact, high efficiency, DC/DC converter has excellent design features using a limited number of components, streamlining functionality with very good predictions of lifetime and MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures).

Thanks to creative engineering, the ENAR150D is highly reliable, and compact in size. Along with the H15 connector, it is form, fit and function compatible with several current industry standard products. It is ideal to be used in rack systems, or mounted stand-alone, and has a width of only 18.5mm, a height of 111mm, and a depth of merely 162mm, fitting into the Eurocasette system.

The input voltage is 110VDC according to the EN50155 rail industry standard. The output voltage of the first ENAR150 model is 2x24V (3.2A). The outputs are isolated and can be used as two different 24V sources connected in parallel for 150W on one output, in series for 48VDC output, or in series with center zero for +/-24V configuration.
The next product in the family will be a 24VDC input version introduced Q4-2014, and later both 48VDC and 72VDC input versions will be available. A dual 12V DC/DC output version is also planned for future release. Other voltages may be available upon request.
The efficiency of the ENAR150D is 93%, typical, making it one of the most energy efficient DC/DC converters in this market segment. The operating temperature range is -40 to +70degC (some additional cooling needed above 55degC). ENAR150D series has all relevant approvals for the railway industry - EN50155, 50121-3-2, EN61373 and EN45545.
The ENAR150D family will be displayed at the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Expo in Houston, Texas, October 12-15, 2014, Powerbox booth #5909. The expo will take place at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
