The Lakes Park Enrichment Foundation is currently collecting entries for its Botanic Garden at Lakes Park Photography Contest, a new addition to its annual National Public Garden Day event. Amateur photographers are invited to submit up to three images of the Community Garden or Fragrance Garden at Lakes Park. The deadline to submit entries is April 30, and winners will be notified prior to May 7. Winning entries will be printed and displayed at Lakes Park during the National Public Garden Day event on May 10.

Entries should be submitted in JPEG format on CD or DVD and mailed to the P.O. Box address provided on the entry form, which is available for download at www.LakesPark.org, along with the $10 entry fee. Photos will be placed in one of three categories: Blossoms, Trees & Shrubs; Birds, Butterflies and Insects; or Scenery. Additional detailed contest information and rules are also available on the website.

Awards for the photo contest will be presented at Noon on May 10. The public is invited to engage in a variety of other activities in the gardens from 5:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of National Public Gardens Day. The celebration begins at dawn with a bird walk starting in the gardens. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., there will be demonstrations and exhibitions, hourly tours of the gardens, and appearances by noted speakers and authors. A continental breakfast will be served and other food and beverages will be on sale throughout the event. Parking is free.

Lakes Park will be joining over 500 public gardens in the nationwide celebration, and the day was officially designated “National Public Gardens Day in Lakes Park” by the Lee County Board of County Commissioners.

The Lakes Park Enrichment Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation established in 2004 by a group of Lee County business leaders and dedicated citizens who recognize Lakes Park as an extremely important green area in Lee County. The foundation’s main focus is to assist Lee County Parks and Recreation in the continued implementation of the $30 million Lakes Park Master Plan, enhancing the park's environmental aesthetics, wildlife habitat and recreational amenities for the community to enjoy for many years to come. Currently, the Lakes Park Enrichment Foundation is focusing its fundraising on creating a botanical garden at Lakes Park. For more information on the foundation, visit www.LakesPark.org.
