800 TB for Adresseavisen
Two new NetApp platforms worth six million Norwegian kroner are being supplied, implemented and maintained by Proact. This will guarantee Adresseavisen the power and performance it needs to deal with increasing traffic volumes
Adresseavisen is the dominant news and advertisement provider in central Norway. The newspaper is published six days a week and has a significant commitment to the Internet and digital services. Like the rest of the Norwegian media, the newspaper is developing in a digital direction, where increased traffic on new types of display is the norm.
“We are seeing a significant increase in traffic. Readers are switching to new media, and this is placing greater demands on us in terms of speed and performance. We have to make sure our systems are always accessible since we live in a round-the-clock world nowadays,” says Asle Vestvik, IT Director at Adresseavisen.
The previous solution from Proact and NetApp was seven years old and overdue for replacement. After an extensive round of tenders, Adresseavisen decided to place its trust in Proact and NetApp once more. A new redundant solution with two drives of around 400 TB each provides the flexibility, functionality and performance which the company needs to be able to meet new market demands. This contract is worth around six million Norwegian kroner.
“We have lots of complex solutions that have to interact. The flexibility of NetApp is crucial in this regard, with lots of new functionality which improves procedures and processes which we already have. Technical functionality was emphasised as being most important, particularly snapshots covering the entire day. Proact’s proposal, with a fully integrated unit which combined all the hardware and software we needed was absolutely ideal. Combining NAS with a fibre channel will mean we will not have to develop lots of other expensive and costly point solutions,” says Vestvik.
Proact have assisted with implementation, configuration, support and maintenance.
