Oslo: Storage specialist Proact has been commissioned to supply storage equipment and SAN infrastructure to the brand new Norsk Tipping data centre in Hamar. This contract may be worth up to about NOK 30 million.

"Norsk Tipping makes extremely stringent demands with regard to uptime, performance, security and flexibility. This is a prestigious contract, and we are very proud to have won it," says Eirik Pedersen, Managing Director of Proact IT Norge.

According to the tender description, the contract will be worth up to NOK 30 million over a three-year period, with an option of extending it for a further year.

Norsk Tipping completed a new building, 5000 square metres in area, in Hamar earlier this year which will be home to the company's IT functions. Two mirrored data halls have been built in the basement which will ensure that more or less all information is duplicated. This reduces the risk of downtime at both Norsk Tipping and around 4000 gaming agents all over Norway.

Almost 1500 TB

Proact will now be installing around 120 terabytes (TB) of storage capacity in each data hall, along with 600 TB of backup capacity. Proact will also be installing new SAN infrastructure in both halls. Among other things, Proact will also be responsible for training, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, support and maintenance for the solution.

Norsk Tipping is Norway's leading gaming company, with some two million customers all over the country. Norsk Tipping's social mission is to offer attractive and responsible gaming and to create profits for good causes. In 2010, the company had a turnover of NOK 14.8 billion and gave almost NOK 4 billion to good causes. The company's product portfolio includes the games Tipping, Oddsen, Lotto, Viking Lotto, Extra, Joker, Keno, Flax, Multix and Belago.
