Archive and storage specialists Proact have been commissioned to assist Malmö University with the renovation of its IT infrastructure with a new storage platform. The deal is initially worth SEK 2 million and will help to create a secure, modern IT environment offering major savings for the university in terms of both time and cost.

Malmö University was founded in 1998, and since then it has grown to become one of the biggest universities in Sweden, with 24 000 students over a large number of different programmes. However, the university's IT environment failed to stay abreast of the rapid expansion and needed to be modernised and expanded. As Malmö University switched to a more virtualised operating environment, they also made the decision to review their storage environment and systems for backup, archiving and disaster protection.

"With Proact's help, we are building an IT infrastructure which is modern and which will allow us to continue expanding at the same rapid pace in the future," says Åke Jansson, Head of IT at Malmö University.

The new solution paves the way for major opportunities for consolidation and streamlining of operation, which will facilitate administration and offer major potential for savings.

As far as Proact is concerned, the deal with Malmö University represents a breakthrough as the university will be Proact's biggest client in the public sector in Southern Sweden.

"Proact has many major clients in the public sector both nationally and internationally. But with Malmö University, we will be breaking new ground as this is our biggest client in this segment in this region," says Martin Ödman at Proact.
