Storage and archiving specialist Proact, delivered a storage and backup/recovery solution for Multiprint. Using a storage array solution, the rapidly growing volume of data being transferred between offices can be flexibly stored and archived.

“Due to digitalisation, our servers fill up fast, and our storage and backup capacity couldn’t keep up with the growing volume of data. We needed a flexible storage and archiving system, whose features could be scaled along with the growing data volumes. In addition to this, Multiprint’s remote locations throughout Finland had to get their data stored and safely archived in Helsinki,” explains Multiprint’s Managing Director, Heikki Kaija, discussing the reasons for this investment.
According to Kaija, the basis for the investment was the flexible storage and backup of data, without using tape data storage.
Proact was chosen as the system provider based on the flexibility of its solution and its wide range of features. The solution was installed in co-operation with NetApp, and included two NetApp FAS2020 storage arrays.
“The first storage array functions as a file storage server. The other is our backup system, into which altered data from the primary system is transferred several times a day. The NetApp SnapVault software is used for these transfers. In addition to this, the software’s OSSV (Open Systems Snap Vault) expansion is used to migrate altered data from remote location servers to the Helsinki location once a month,” explains the solution’s IT Architect, Kimmo Sorala of Proact.
Because only altered data is transferred from remote locations to the storage server, Multiprint does not need to install faster telecommunications links between its various locations.
