Instead of a conventional storage solution, ProAct - through ProAct Datasystem AB - has built up and installed a complete Storage Area Network, an SAN solution based on components including the new generation storage system from LSI Logic. The Ericsson Radio System department for total verification of 3G systems (UMTS) needed a new, more powerful and scalable solution to replace and develop its storage systems. The company chose an SAN solution as they found that this offered improved scalability and performance as well as the capacity to match its requirements both now and in the future. This is ensured by full redundancy in an SAN environment that can grow from its existing size of 700 GB to 16 TB. "Instead of having to renew the system continuously, we can now expand within the company by supplementing this system - which will save us both time and money," says Ingemar Wrangel, IT Manager at Ericsson Radio Systems.
