Two Lithuanian enterprises installed electronic TV archive and implemented computer-assisted TV production and broadcasting system in Kazakhstan national TV and radio company RTRK Kazakhstan. It was the RTRK Kazakhstan initiative to call Lithuanian enterprises to take part in this governmental tender.

The competition for the contractors to implement video archiving and TV production and broadcasting automation solutions in Kazakhstan TV was won by the UAB TV & Communication Systems from Šiauliai together with partner JSC Proact Lietuva, located in Vilnius. Both the Lithuanian enterprises outdid Kazakhstan’s local e-solutions providers.

TVC director Edmundas Stumbrys pointed out that the cooperation with Kazakhstan is lasting since the Soviet times: “the city of Šiauliai provided and installed equipment for TV centers all over the Soviet Union. This contract is the outcome of our earlier cooperation”.

UAB Proact Lietuva, the provider of data storage and archiving solutions and a partner of the TVC, installed computerized data archive consisting of 320 TB of tape storage, 7 TB of disk storage, servers and other equipment supplied by Sun Microsystems.

Richardas Pivoriūnas, director of Proact Lietuva told that before suggesting particular hardware and software, it was necessary to evaluate with scrutiny the recommendations of providers, to choose servers and archives of the right capacity. Previous experience with similar projects enabled the Lithuanian companies to come up with optimal solutions and win the competition.

Since Proact Lietuva had to ensure fast and qualified service and maintenance in Almaty, local trust-worthy partners were chosen with the help of local Sun Microsystems office and Proact Group.

As Mr. R. Pivoriūnas stressed, one of the most important task was to achieve concerted cooperation between the partners to implement the whole project in the short time.

According to the Lithuanian businessmen, the digitalization of TV archives and the computer-assisted broadcasting will not only relieve the TV staff, but reduce the number of errors in making new TV programs and increase the speed of accessing archived TV material. Preserving the TV archive for future generations is also one of the tasks of the digitalization.
