Proact Lithuania delivers all-flash solution to Lithuanian Research and Education Network
Data centre and cloud services provider Proact has successfully supported a project, led by Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), to deploy a new all-flash platform that will power initiatives for the Lithuanian Research and Education Network LITNET community.
LITNET connects the computer networks of research and education institutions to provide digital data transmission and other innovative e-services for research and education. Proact’s cloud-enabled solution has unlocked new levels of performance and security for the entire LITNET community.
The cloud computing solution was deployed in KTU’s data centre and was funded by EU structural funds with the aim of improving and expanding LITNET’s infrastructure. The groups working at the research and education institutions contribute to the global scientific knowledge by conducting cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research on the most important questions of current time. To facilitate studies and research, they need fast and reliable IT services. By getting Proact on-board to create a cloud-based technology platform, KTU and other Science and Education Institutions will be able to benefit from greater availability and more efficient LITNET services.
Leader of the project, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), is a leading Lithuanian university that provides a wide range of studies and closely cooperates with a range of businesses. The University provides studies in engineering, technologies, physical and social sciences, humanities and arts. KTU has been a Proact customer for a number of years and the organisations have worked together on a variety of successful projects.
Winning the public RFP (Request of Proposal) for KTU’s latest initiative to support LITNET was a huge success for the Proact team. Despite a challenging bidding process, Proact was able to draw on its advanced technological expertise and experience with the university to fulfill all requirements and win the project.
In today’s landscape of escalating cyber threats, KTU wanted to ensure that all the technological solutions aligned with the LITNET’s safety policy. Using its advanced security knowledge, Proact designed and implemented the all-flash solution in-line with these practices to ensure that the critical information technology infrastructure remains accessible yet secure.
As part of this project Proact also helped KTU improve its application performance, expand its infrastructure and helped to cut operation and management costs. The all-flash solution was able to meet all these objectives and will be supported by Proact for the next five years to ensure that it keeps running as it should.
“New Hitachi storage will bring Litnet's Science Cloud to a new level, providing faster data access, better durability, reduced energy consumption and improved security and reliability. We’ve already been working with Proact for many years, and we are confident with their products and support,” says Eimantas Šerpenskas, Head of KTU IT department.
