ProAct wins new major order for data storage from Ericsson To builds the infrastructure behind Ericsson's development system Ericsson Software Technology AB, which works with software development, has ordered a data-storage and infrastructure solution from ProAct Datasystem AB, a company within the ProAct IT Group. The deal is worth about SEK 9.4 million and involves the supply of hardware and software as well as implementation services in connection with the expansion of Ericsson Software Technology's ClearCase development environment. The solution is a Network Attached Storage (NAS) system, which means that data storage is performed by separate severs that gather information used by different systems on the network. For this project, ProAct has chosen to recommend equipment produced by Sun Microsystems and Network Appliance, an American NAS specialist. "One advantage to being an independent integrater and specialist in the field of infrastructure and data storage is that we can choose whatever solution will work best for the customer. This gives us considerable freedom in putting together bids, and ensures customer satisfaction subsequent to the implementation phase," says Roger Jarleswärd, head of customer relations at the ProAct Datasystem office in Karlskrona, Sweden. The main factors involved in Ericsson's choice of ProAct to supply this solution were ProAct's comprehensive view and its excellent track record. In addition, ProAct is able to take charge of the entire implementation, thanks to the company's all-around competence and experience with similar projects. The equipment includes a number of Sun servers and data storage equipment from Network Appliance. One of the servers is a SunFire 4800, which can be furnished with up to 12 processors and 96 GB of memory. The network-based data storage system is built on a NetApp F820, which has a capacity of up to 2.3 terabytes.
