Statoil chooses ProAct as its partner for data storage in the Nextstep project ProAct has - through ProAct Systems AS in Norway - entered into a global agreement with Statoil concerning the delivery of a NAS-solution (Network Attached Storage) initially for its larger offices in Norway as well as Copenhagen and Stockholm. The agreement covers powerful storage solutions from Network Appliance, and the initial order value amounts to approximately NOK 25 million. New storage strategy - a part of the Nextstep project The new NAS solutions are a part of Statoil's ongoing work to renew its internal data environment - what is known as the Nextstep project. "Our overall goals with a new file server strategy are to improve security, increase cost-efficiency and create a stable, scaleable and powerful file server service for our UNIX and NT environments. ProAct was able to meet these requirements," explains Arild Halsetrønning, Project Manager, Statoil. "The NAS solution that ProAct will be supplying is the most advanced data storage solution currently available on the market. It provides high performance and security, simplifies administration and allows access to the same functionalities, irrespective of whether you are using UNIX or NT," says Ståle Artun, Project Sales Manager at ProAct. "The solution also includes unique functionality based on snapshot technology, providing users with access to several older versions of their data, as well as allowing them to extract these data in a simple manner." "Statoil has previously chosen ProAct storage solutions. The continous working relationship can be seen as a confirmation of Statoil's confidence in ProAct as a supplier," states Marit Fagervold, Director of Sales at ProAct Systems AS. The agreement signed with Statoil will run for three years. It is a global agreement covering modern storage solutions from Network Appliance. The first order refers to Statoil's larger offices in Norway as well as the offices in Copenhagen and Stockholm, which, together, comprise a storage capacity of around 27 TB. The initial order is valued at approximately NOK 25 million and includes services, equipment and maintenance.
