Probi marks Sustainability Day with 44% cut in carbon emissions since 2019
PRESS RELEASE
OCTOBER 29, 2025
As the world observes the annual Sustainability Day, Probi highlights its progress in the fight against climate change with a 44% reduction in carbon emissions compared to its 2019 baseline, as well as facilities now running on 100% renewable energy.
World Sustainability Day is celebrated every year on the last Wednesday of October; this year it falls on the 29th. It’s an initiative to raise awareness about sustainability and the importance of committing to practices that protect the environment for future generations.
“At Probi, our philosophy of restoring natural balance isn’t just about gut balance and health, it’s about the planet’s health too,” said Basudha Bhattarai-Johansson, VP HR & Sustainability at Probi.
“This day serves as an important reminder that change is possible, and our own results show what can be achieved when sustainability is embedded into the business strategy. We’ve come a great way, but we also know there’s plenty still to do.”
The substantial reductions in carbon emissions are a result of multi-year and multi-dimensional approaches. They include closer collaboration with suppliers, prioritizing ‘make more vs. buy more’ to reduce emissions in purchased goods and investing in upgraded equipment and process innovations that increase output while using fewer resources.
Renewable energy milestone achieved
Since spring 2025 both of Probi’s production plants in the US are running entirely on renewable electricity, as well as the head office in Lund, Sweden.
The plant in Redmond, WA, is powered 100% by wind and solar through PSE Green Power with Carbon Balance, and Lafayette, CO, by 100% wind and solar via Xcel Energy’s Renewable Connect Flex.
“Thanks to these upgrades, we’re on track to achieve our Science Based Targets five years ahead of schedule, by the end of 2025,” added Basudha Bhattarai-Johansson.
Looking ahead
Probi has committed to halving emissions across its operations and value chain by 2030, and to achieving net zero climate emissions by 2040, but no later than 2050.
“Sustainability Day is about raising awareness about what’s possible if we act together, and hopefully sparking a sense of hope. For us at Probi, it reinforces our long-term ambition to contribute to the 1.5°C target of the Paris Agreement and to restore natural balance, for both people and planet,” said Basudha Bhattarai-Johansson.
