MERCHANT GOURMET GIVES TOMATOES FRESH SEALED APPEAL

Merchant Gourmet has repackaged its Original Sun Dried Tomatoes to further its appeal with the cook from scratch crowd. The brand’s top selling tomato product will now be sold in re-sealable pouches which are expected to hit supermarket shelves from April 2010. The new packaging will improve the product’s quality and appearance, both in the pack and on the shelves. It will also encourage consumers to use the tomatoes as an everyday ingredient, to flavour a wide range of meals rather than just one recipe. This is the latest in a number of Merchant Gourmet products to be transferred to the pouch format - a move that has resulted in a significant rise in sales and positive customer feedback. Clive Moxham, Sales & Marketing Director at Merchant Gourmet, said: “Merchant Gourmet is changing. We’re focussing on our customers more than we’ve ever done before and sales are rising as a result. “We know that customers are cooking more from scratch and that they use our Sun Dried Tomatoes in a number of meals for their intense flavour. The new pouch pack has been developed in line with this cooking habit, to improve the quality of the product and promote the ease of use.” For those with less time to spare, Merchant Gourmet also offer a range of products which can be enjoyed on the go or straight from the pack, such as Ready to Eat Slow Roasted Tomatoes and Sun Dried Tomatoes in Oil. Merchant Gourmet Original Sun Dried Tomatoes are available from Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrisons, Ocado and The Co-operative from around £1.25. Customers can also purchase items directly from www.merchant-gourmet.com where they’ll also find recipes and cook-along videos with Alex Mackay. Ends. 22nd March 2010
