RaySearch Laboratories AB has received an order for its RayStation® treatment planning system from Health Quest Systems, Inc., headquartered in LaGrange, New York.

Health Quest’s radiation oncology enterprise comprises the departments of four community locations that have been serving regional patients in New York’s Mid-Hudson Valley since 1887. They are; Dyson Cancer Center at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, Ulster Radiation Oncology Center in Kingston, a joint venture with Benedictine Hospital, Fishkill Radiation Oncology in Fishkill and Wagner Cancer Pavilion at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, respectively. Health Quest Systems has established centers of excellence in these communities and pride themselves in using the most advanced equipment for detection and treatment in the fight against cancer.

Health Quest will use RayStation® as its treatment planning system for advanced treatments, such as IMRT, and will be serving the four treatment centers with a central patient database and thin client access throughout the departments. Health Quest will systematically replace their current treatment planning system with RayStation® for all external beam treatment planning over a phased transition period.

The order also includes multi-criteria optimization which is an advanced product enabling a more efficient treatment planning process. This highly intuitive tool lets the clinician evaluate the impact of changing different treatment priorities in real-time, which has a large potential to speed up the time-consuming treatment planning optimization process.

Health Quest Systems Senior Medical Physicist, George Sherouse says: “I have been privileged in my career to be present at the launch of several game-changing innovations in radiation oncology treatment planning. As the first totally new commercial platform in some time, designed and built by an established industry leading software house, RayStation® promises to be another game-changer. The rate at which RaySearch is able to deliver innovations in clinical software is remarkable to me. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to lead an early adopter team at Health Quest.”

Marc Mlyn, President of RaySearch Americas says: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Chief Physicist Dan Pavord and George Sherouse. Both have been very active in the medical physics community, and we look forward to implementing our second largest installation to date with them leading the project for Health Quest.”

Johan Löf, CEO of RaySearch Laboratories AB says: “Community cancer centers are very important and key to our overall strategic direction for RayStation® in North America. RayStation® provides effective tools for all aspects of radiation treatment planning and that is something that Health Quest Systems recognized from the beginning. I am also pleased to note that total order value of the three orders generated by RaySearch Americas during August now surpasses one million US Dollars.”
