Realfiction Holding AB (“Realfiction”) has been awarded up to 500,000 DKK as an InnoBooster grant from Innovation Fund Denmark to develop and test a 3D LCD display beta-version. The development of the technology is based on Realfiction’s patent pending ECHO technology.

The technology:

Realfiction has previously announced the completion of its Proof of Concept for its patent pending ECHO technology. The vision of the ECHO technology continues to be the ambition of truly changing the world of 3D holographic flat screen displays through a newly invented directional pixel technology. ECHO is a scalable display technology that makes it possible and cost-effective to present high quality 3D holographic moving images in open air, without the use of glasses or other lenses and with look-around capability for groups of people.

The beta-version:

Today’s flat screen displays use different image technologies. OLED is in many ways a superior and future ready technology and remains a top priority target for Realfiction in terms of the implementation of the company’s ECHO technology. Micro LED is the latest technology offering higher brightness and enormous sizes through its modular design. But LCD, including Samsung’s Quantum Dot (QLED) variant, is still by far the widest used flat screen display technology in the market, and has advantages like less expensive development costs, more producers and potential licensees and a shorter time to market. LCD is therefore the best choice for a beta-version that can demonstrate the features and benefits of incorporating the ECHO technology into a flat screen display.

The road ahead:

The company is currently preparing easy to understand visualization of the ECHO technology that will be presented as soon as possible to allow for a deeper understanding of the technology. The company will develop and test the ECHO beta-version and initiate dialogue with flat screen display manufacturers regarding licensing opportunities that will enable the integration of ECHO into the next generation displays.

The grant:

The grant of up to 500,000 DKK will cover approximately 33% of the cost expected to be incurred in connection with the development of the 3D LCD display beta-version. The remaining 66% of the development cost is covered by the company in the form of man-hours.

We are delighted that Innovation Fund Denmark shows confidence in our approach and ambition by awarding us a grant to develop and test a 3D holographic LCD display beta-version based on ECHO”, says Clas Dyrholm, CEO of Realfiction and continues: “Developing this beta-version is another step on the road towards realizing the ultimate vision of creating the Holy Grail of 3D.”
