UK Foodservice operators’ sustainability expenditure to rise 7.2% to 2013: Report Buyer
UK foodservice operators expect profitability to increase during 2012–2013 due to the adoption of sustainability practices.
The report Sustainability in the UK Foodservice Operators' Industry 2012-2013 available at Reportbuyer.com says that on average, foodservice operators' sustainability expenditure is expected to rise over the next 12 months by 7.2%. The most important drivers for sustainability include cost savings and operational efficiency, compliance with legislation, and reducing food wastage.
Overall, the report’s survey results show that 15% of respondents expect that adopting sustainability practices will increase the profitability of their company substantially, while 32% of respondents expect a slight increase in profitability and 24% of respondents expect no impact on profitability.
According to the 119 page report, on average, sustainability budgets are expected to increase by 8% for operators with turnover of less than £1 million, while it is expected to increase by 6.8% for operators with turnover of£1 million -GBP9.99 million.
Procuring local food and implementing minimal packaging are considered to be important sustainable procurement standards by foodservice operators in both the profit and cost sector channels.
