Innovative Finnish companies Resand and Hetitec lead the foundry industry towards more sustainable development
Resand Ltd Press release 18 January 2024 at 9:00 a.m. EET
Resand Ltd, a Finnish technology company specializing in environmentally friendly foundry sand regeneration and recycling, has signed a cooperation agreement with Hetitec Oy based in Tampere, Finland. The cooperation, which will start in early 2024, will include a sand recovery and recycling service provided by Resand, enabling Hetitec to produce castings even more efficiently and in an environmentally sustainable way.
Hetitec, a digital foundry specializing in fast delivery of castings, was established in 2013. Hetitec is a prototype, spare parts, and small batch foundry serving the industry in Finland and Europe. The company specializes in fast and high-quality 3D-printed castings and employs 31 people.
With Resand’s sand regeneration solution, the amount of virgin sand used in Hetitec's production, transport, and related emissions are reduced. The sand is regenerated at Resand’s Nuutajärvi plant and recycled back to Hetitec's foundry, allowing the regenerated sand to be reused in Hetitec's production processes. The cooperation with Resand also enables the cost-effective use of ceramic sand at Hetitec’s foundry.
"Since founding Hetitec, we've wanted to build our business using the best solutions and do things differently. We try to do things quickly, that idea is the core of our business. Our unique production process, where we use 3D-printed sand molds and only the best materials, allows us to deliver machined castings even in less than a week. With the innovative solution offered by Resand, we can not only be the fastest in the industry, but also one of the most environmentally friendly players. The cooperation with Resand is an excellent addition to our unique concept," comments Heikki Kantola, CEO of Hetitec Oy.
"The foundry industry is constantly looking for new solutions that support sustainable development. With our patented sand regeneration technology and our innovative Resand® solution, we are contributing to the green transition of the foundry industry. We are very proud to start our cooperation with the innovative, growth-oriented Hetitec. We are united by the desire to modernize foundry operations with innovative solutions. Thanks to the agreement with Hetitec, a large number of Finnish foundries have come a long way in environmentally friendly sand treatment," says Kalle Härkki, CEO of Resand Oy.
Resand® Sand As A Service (SAAS) solution offers foundries sustainable savings compared to current practices in the foundry industry. Savings are achieved through buying less virgin sand, disposing of less used sand, and reducing transport and energy costs. Thanks to the regeneration solution, CO2 emissions from the use and transport of sand can be reduced by up to 80%. Since the regeneration and recycling of used sand is offered as a service, it also reduces the capital tied up in foundry operations.

Sand suitable for industrial use is becoming scarce. However, the extraction of virgin sand can be reduced, and the resulting loss of biodiversity is slowed down by regenerating and reusing sand. Resand Oy is a Finnish technology company specializing in foundry sand regeneration, offering its customers clean sand as a service. The Resand® solution enables almost 100% recycling of foundry sand and reduces CO2 emissions from sand use and transport by up to 80%.
Resand Oy is headquartered in Nuutajärvi, Finland, and has staff in several European countries. The company aims to achieve strong growth in the European foundry market and to expand its business outside Europe.
The Resand® brings a solution to the global challenge by recycling sand - again and again and again.
