Riding for the Disabled (RDA) to hold charity garden concert featuring the A440 Chamber Orchestra
On Sunday 10th August 2014, the Stratford-upon-Avon Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) group is hosting an open-air charity concert with music from the A440 Chamber Orchestra in a bid to raise £3,500.
The charity concert commences at 5pm and ends at 7pm, and will be held in the beautiful gardens of Ridgeway Lodge, Manor Road, Adderbury, Oxon. The A440 Chamber Orchestra will be directed by Kenneth Woods of the English String Orchestra.
“With wonderful music in such a picturesque garden setting, it’ll be a great evening,” says Carol Collins, RDA Sponsorship Secretary. “People can bring a picnic and enjoy a lovely summer evening relaxing with their hampers and champers, and win one of the great prizes in our raffle!”
The concert is a fundraiser to help provide livery for the five resident ponies and raise funds towards buying a hydraulic mounting lift, which allows for a wheelchair to be positioned right next to the pony at the right level, making it easier for disabled riders to mount.
“The garden is perfect for hosting concerts, and I wanted to help a local charity,” says host and cellist Graham Appleton. “RDA is doing great work, but it needs more funding to continue giving those with learning and physical disabilities the opportunity to learn to ride.”
In addition to the concert and raffle, there will be a demonstration ride by RDA with ponies Marco and Keira.
“Our motto is ‘it’s what you can do that counts’,” says Donna Jenkins, RDA Group Organiser. “The benefits to the riders can be huge; for example one of our regular riders has cerebral palsy and riding has really helped improve his walking. We are very grateful to Graham for helping us host this event.”
RDA Stratford-upon-Avon is one of 500 groups in the UK working in conjunction with registered charity, the Riding for the Disabled Association, that provide riding lessons for people of varying disabilities. The Stratford group runs over 800 rides a year, with lessons on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Gates open at 4pm. Tickets cost £15 for adults and £5 for those aged 16 and under. For more details, contact Carol Collins at carol.collins2@btinternet.com or 07460 319275 or Donna Jenkins at donna@mdjenkins.co.uk or 07818 413107 or visit www.rda-stratford.org.uk.
