Rottneros Mill invests SEK 15 million in a methane gas burner to achieve the goal of a fossil-free production process.

This means that the methane gas generated as a by-product in the new bio effluent treatment plant can be used in the mill's drying process. The burner will be put into operation during the first half of 2020 and, in addition to reduced consumption of fossil fuels, also means lower variable costs.

“The investment means that we basically achieve the goal of a fossil-free manufacturing process in Rottneros Mill. By utilizing the methane gas generated in the bio effluent treatment process when we dry the pulp, we will replace the equivalent of 1,000 cubic meters of fossil fuel in the form of oil. Overall, the investments we have made in the mill since a few years have reduced oil consumption by some 7,000 cubic meters on an annual basis, while the production volume has grown significantly”, says Nils Hauri, Chief Innovation Officer.
