SBB carries out Sweden's largest certification with Miljöbyggnad iDrift (Environmental Building In Use)
Miljöbyggnad iDrift is an important tool in Sweden's work to create sustainable property management of existing properties. Samhällsbyggnadsbolaget i Norden AB (publ) (“SBB”) certifies 500 of its existing buildings and then certifies another 500. These are a number of different properties such as schools, rent regulated residentials and community service properties around the country.
One of Sweden's challenges to achieve the climate goals is to renovate and adapt the sustainability of our existing property portfolio, as 90 percent of the buildings will still be in use in 2050. Environmental building iDrift is an effective tool that creates environmental and climate benefits through measures and certification of buildings in use.
Sweden Green Building Councils' ("SGBC") collaboration with SBB is the largest order to date for Miljöbyggnad iDrift and the hope is that it will be a positive example for other players with large property holdings. The certification is developed specifically to effectively sustainability adjust large, existing volumes.
“The most sustainable building is often the one that already exists. Our extensive certification according to SGBC's Miljöbyggnad iDrift now gives us the opportunity to show the results of our sustainability investments in SBB's existing portfolio,” comments Ilija Batljan, CEO and Founder, Samhällsbyggnadsbolaget i Norden AB.
The certification Miljöbyggnad iDrift has been developed by SGBC and was launched in 2020. It originates in the well-known certification system Miljöbyggnad, but is only aimed at buildings that are in use.
“This is SGBC's single largest agreement to date in terms of the number of certifications ordered at one time. SBB shows how important it is that we invest in existing buildings to ensure a sustainable social infrastructure property and that the conversion can take place efficiently even in large property holdings,” says Lotta Werner Flyborg, CEO of SGBC.
Through the stamp of quality a certification in Miljöbyggnad iDrift gives, property owners can, in addition to contributing to climate change, increase the value of their properties and more easily attract tenants.
