Titled “Battle For Future,” the provocative work blends elements of data science, glass blowing, and graffiti to help us understand how our actions impact UN sustainability goals

Globally-renowned graffiti artist EGS unveils a new collaboration with international digital engineering and innovation company Futurice. Titled “Battle For Future,” the co-created artwork sees EGS use UN data analysed by the Futurice team to produce a unique piece that makes us think about how our individual actions impact our collective future.

Both the data-driven technology and art spaces can be obscure for those without intimate knowledge of each industry. This collaboration takes one of the most complex problems of our time – world hunger – and democratises the discussion around it by blending art and data in a way that makes this complex topic accessible for everyone.

“Exploration is part of what makes us human,” says Futurice Creative Director Kalle Tuomi. “It is critical we all push to understand complex issues and share what we learn with others so we can change how we act for the better. By fusing data and art, we can shape powerful messages that can be understood by many people.”

EGS dove deeper into the thought process behind the series at the B.F.F seminar and celebration organized by Futurice today, where he spoke in person to attendees in with his identity hidden behind a mask.

“Even if the future looks bleak today, there is still hope,” said EGS. “It is not too late to change things for the better. And we can all participate in the change. Small actions count. I would like people to think about who is creating the strategy for our future - and finally understand that it is up to ourselves. If that can be done by combining seemingly boring data with exciting art, that’s great.”

The piece will then be on display for 10 weeks alongside other works at the Finnish Glass Museum in Riihimäki.

Joining EGS on stage were the former President & CEO for GE Germany and Chief Technology Officer for GE Europe Dr Carlos Härtel, Vice President Sales & CX at VR Salla Ketola, and Futurice co-founder & Chief AI Officer Tuomas Syrjänen.
