Increased cooperation between SAS, British Midland and Lufthansa SAS, British Midland and Lufthansa today announced a new strong European cooperation between the three airlines. A cooperation aimed to bring wide ranging benefits to passengers and improved operating efficiencies to all three airlines. From 2 May 2000, the airlines will introduce coordinated sales and marketing activities, joint use of lounges, reciprocal frequent flier programmes and code sharing on all routes operated by the three from London Heathrow and Manchester. -For SAS passengers this increased cooperation means a possibility of a wider range of global flights, says Vagn Sörensen. Senior Vice President, Business Systems Division, SAS. - British Midland was formed over 60 years ago as a flight training school for RAF pilots and has grown into the second largest operator at London Heathrow. During 1999 British Midland carried six million passengers to 29 destinations. SAS owns 20 per cent of British Midland, Lufthansa owns 20 per cent and 60 per cent is privately owned.
