SAS ADDS MORE FLIGHTS TO INDIA AND CHINA SAS will increase it frequencies both to Beijing and Delhi beginning this fall. On September 19 the route to Beijing will increase to five times per week from the previous four. The fifth flight will depart at 3:50 p.m. on Fridays and arrive in Beijing on Saturday at 6:45 a.m. The return flight on Saturday arrives in Copenhagen at 1:00 p.m. In the beginning of April SAS started up a fifth frequency to Hong Kong, departing Copenhagen Fridays at 3:35 p.m. The return from Hong Kong arrives in Copenhagen at 4:20 p.m. "Our aim the past couple of years has been to be able to operate daily flights both to Hong Kong and Beijing. We are now moving towards that goal," explains Lennart Dufva, responsible for SAS's China routes. SAS's passengers between Europe and China have increased some 30 percent the past year. "It is important for SAS to add the capacity these customers are looking for," says Dufva. In addition, SAS's route to Delhi, which re-opened two years ago, will add another flight on November 8, bringing it up to four frequencies per week. This frequency is on Saturday, departing Copenhagen 8:20 p.m., arriving Delhi on Sunday morning. The return from Delhi arrives in Copenhagen on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. "We have seen excellent passenger figures on this route. Just during the last half year the amount of passengers increased by 14 percent compared with the same period last year. It is primarily the Indian market yielding the most sales," says Mette Östergaard-Sörensen, responsible for SAS's India route. In the last two months we've seen a 40 percent increase. "It is definitely the right time to move on the Indian market. SAS is practically the only airline departing from Delhi during the daytime. Now looks like we've made advancements in this market," explains Mette Östergaard-Sörensen. Beginning next summer SAS has permission to add a fifth frequency. "But we won't make the decision until later."
