SAS reduces its British Midland shareholding

SAS reduces its British Midland shareholding Lufthansa is to purchase British Midland shares with a value of GBP 91.4 million from SAS. As a result, SAS's shareholding in British Midland will be reduced from 40%, the level that has prevailed since 1992, to 20%. At the same time, British Midland announces its willingness [alt: intention] to become a member of Star Alliance. The existing members of Star Alliance are SAS, Lufthansa, United Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Air Canada, VARIG, THAI, Ansett Australia and Air New Zealand. Austrian Airlines, Mexicana Airlines and Singapore Airlines will join Star Alliance during 2000.
