Scandinavian IT Group and Compaq form joint-venture company for mobile IT solutions SAS' subsidiary, Scandinavian IT Group (SIG) and Compaq are forming a joint-venture company offering mobile IT solutions for the aviation and travel industries. The mobile operation within Scandinavian IT Group will now be in a position to become an even stronger player in the market through its cooperation with Compaq. As part of SIG's international expansion, the company is therefore concentrating on IT solutions for users of mobile systems. A joint-venture company under the name of Scandinavian Mobility Sweden AB is now being established in cooperation with Compaq. SIG's present operations in the field of mobile systems are being transferred to the new company. "With Compaq as a partner, we will reach out to the international airline and travel market more rapidly, and we are gaining access to a very competent technology partner," says Hans-Henrik Hedegaard, president of Scandinavian IT Group. The new company has already delivered systems to SAS and other members of the Star Alliance. Airline and timetable information, and the booking and rebooking of airline tickets are examples of products based on mobile technology. "SAS look upon this cooperation as a significant step to show that SAS as an airline is creative and leading in the field of IT. Scandinavian IT and Scandinavian Mobility has a great potential says Claes Broström, Senior Vice President & CIO, who also hold the position as Chairman of the Board for SIG. "Compaq's European program on the mobile Internet is conducted from Stockholm in the form of our EMEA Wireless Center," says Niklas Johnsson, Director of Business Development at Compaq. "A basic concept of the program is to strengthen partnerships with companies that have cutting- edge expertise and can deliver innovative mobile solutions.
