Small changes in SAS EuroBonus on Swedish domestic routes after Market Court ruli

Small changes in SAS EuroBonus on Swedish domestic routes after Market Court ruling The Swedish Market Court today ruled that effective October 27, 2001, SAS must revise EuroBonus with regard to applying points earned* on Swedish domestic routes on which SAS meets competition for taking advantage of bonus offerings. The ruling means that the Market Court changes the Competition Authority's decision that included all Swedish domestic routes. Only three SAS routes are affected by the ruling: Stockholm-Gothenburg, Stockholm-Malmö and Stockholm -Ängelholm. Upon entrance of new players on a flight route, SAS must adjust EuroBonus in a corresponding manner. SAS contends that all airlines, current and future, should be able to compete on equal terms. Bonus programs are applied by all airlines in the world and this is an established and accepted competitive tool. The ruling is unique and it is the first time that an airline has been restricted in applying bonus programs in all its operations. Airlines that cooperate with SAS are also affected by the decision, such as regional partner Skyways. *points earned on competitive domestic routes in Sweden may not be used to take advantage of bonus offerings. However, earned points may be used to achieve a higher membership status, for example, silver or gold member.
