Statement on Accident SK 686 Routed Milan - Copenhagen Scandinavian Airlines regrets to confirm that its flight number SK 686 with 104 passengers and 6 crew en route from Milan/Linate Italy to Copenhagen, Denmark was involved in an accident at 08:15 hrs local time today. A second press conference will be held at SAS headquarters in Frösundavik (Stockholm) at 18:00 hours today. Casualties have occurred but the number has not yet been confirmed. We will provide further information as it becomes available. SAS is doing everything possible to help passengers and next-of-kin and to assist Italian authorities at this difficult time. A team of specially-trained SAS personnel from Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen and are now en route to Milan to provide assistance at the scene of the accident. The aircraft, a MD87 was delivered to SAS on September 21, 1991 and has flown 25,573 hrs in 16,562 flights. The aircraft is equipped with 2 engines. The latest major check B6:1 was performed on September 3, 2001. The names of the passengers and crew will be released when all next-of- kin have been notified. A special hot-line number has been established for families and relatives.
