    Scania and Ahola Transport agree on semi-autonomous platooning

    Scania announces a partnership agreement with Finnish company Ahola Transport to implement new transport technologies on Nordic roads. This marks the first customer agreement in Europe for semi-autonomous truck platooning on public roads.     Scania takes lead with full-scale autonomous truck platoon

    Scania will design the world’s first full-scale autonomous truck platooning operations, based on its own advanced technology. The platoon will traffic public roads while transporting containers between port terminals in Singapore. The aim is to organise convoys of four trucks – with the following three trucks behind the lead truck autonomously driven, as well as to fully automate the processes for precise docking and undocking of cargo.“Autonomous vehicles and platooning are cornerstones of future sustainable transport systems,” says Claes Erixon, Head of Research and Development at Scania.

    Scania joins the world’s first cross-border truck convoys

    On 29 March, three extra-long trucks will embark from Scania in Södertälje, Sweden, to drive in a close convoy to Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The initiative is being driven by the Netherlands, which currently holds the EU Presidency, and aims to fast-track the development of truck convoys. These convoys have the potential for increasing safety, as well as reducing fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in all long-haulage road transport operations.Scania is one of several stakeholders taking part in the European Truck Platooning Challenge, with involvement from 29 March to 6 April

    Scania leads European research project on vehicle platooning

    Scania will take the lead role in a three-year European research project to develop a system for implementing truck platooning on roads. Introducing platooning on European roads can significantly contribute towards reducing the carbon footprint of trucks.
