Pan-European distributor Alcaline has taken on two FP25 dry freight box trailers from Schmitz Cargobull to support continued growth in its operations.

The new assets join Alcaline’s fleet of 150 trailers, 95 per cent of which are manufactured by Schmitz Cargobull, and will be used to transport automotive parts between the UK, France and Italy, and steel coils and large metal parts between the UK and the Benelux countries.

Lorenzo Zaccheo, Managing Director, Alcaline, says: “We’ve trusted Schmitz Cargobull for many years as our trailer supplier and when we wanted to expand our fleet, it was the obvious first choice. We know from experience that Schmitz Cargobull trailers give us far more flexibility in terms of payload, and we can rely on them for support wherever we are in Europe. It’s easy for us to get replacement parts – although with the build quality we don’t expect to have do this very often – and we know Schmitz Cargobull will look after us long after the original sale.”

Funded through Cargobull Finance, the new trailers have been built at Schmitz Cargobull’s state-of-the-art factory in Vreden. In keeping with Schmitz Cargobull’s one-stop-shop approach to trailer supply, the new box trailers incorporate a variety of innovative features developed in-house.

These include the unique FERROPLAST® body panels, which is easier to repair and replace than traditional GRP. It does not absorb moisture and therefore does not increase in weight over time, meaning the maximum payload remains consistently as high as possible.

Using a galvanised and bolted chassis for easy maintenance, the trailers also run on Schmitz Cargobull’s own ROTOS running gear, which offers substantially improved service life with long-lasting components – some ROTOS users have found that after five years’ worth of operations, the only parts that have needed replacing are the brake pads.

The trailers also incorporate ferry shackles to allow easy transportation between the UK and Europe.

Alcaline is based in Kent, with a subsidiary in the Netherlands and a satellite office in Turin, Italy.
