Schmitz Cargobull (UK) has demonstrated its commitment to growing sales of temperature controlled bodies for rigid trucks, following the appointment of the company’s first National Sales Manager – Truck Bodies.

Simon Lake, 45, brings 25 years of industry experience to the new position, on the back of senior roles within Allfleet Bodyshop Services and Truck Engineering, plus seven years as a Business Development Manager at Bevan Group – Schmitz Cargobull’s partner in the domestic rigid body sector. He has also spent five years at Lawrence David Trailers and six years with JC Payne.

Commenting on his appointment, Lake says: “I’ve worked in the truck body market nearly all my career; the opportunity to join Schmitz Cargobull and lead this new sector with my sales and technical expertise held massive appeal.

“Schmitz Cargobull’s rigid bodies are every bit as good as the company’s reefer trailers, so there’s naturally a huge opportunity to develop real growth. This is coupled with a genuine desire from senior management to become a market leader in the truck body sector.”

Schmitz Cargobull introduced its first M.KO rigid reefer bodies to the UK in 2012 following the announcement that dry-freight bodybuilder Bevan Group had begun assembling reefers in the UK using Schmitz Cargobull designs, components and materials. The product incorporates features unique to Schmitz Cargobull including bolted and galvanised sub-frames and high-performance FERROPLAST panels. Coupled with Bevan’s premium build quality and speed of delivery, it means customers are assured of a first-rate service.

Lake adds: “With products already European type-approved and offering the same low whole life costs as its reefer trailers, Schmitz Cargobull has a compelling product and a strong brand recognised across the industry. It’s the perfect recipe for success, and I’m delighted to have been chosen to be part of it.”

Lake will focus his time on meeting prospective fleet customers across the UK, as well as building relationships with truck manufacturers and dealer networks. He will work with the existing Schmitz Cargobull sales team, Group colleagues and UK truck body partner Bevan Group to realise the potential for truck body sales.

Married with two children, Lake will be based at the company’s head office in Warrington and will report directly to Derek Skinner, Technical Director.
