NEW SCHMITZ CARGOBULL CURTAINSIDERS RAISE THE ROOF FOR ALCALINE
11 September 2013
Pan-European haulier Alcaline has maintained its 100 per cent Schmitz Cargobull trailer fleet with the delivery of six new S.CS MEGA curtainsiders with VARIOS® Top Technology.
The new trailers replace older models in the company’s 120-strong trailer fleet and will be used to deliver automotive parts throughout the UK and into mainland Europe.
In its search for the most competitive trailer on the market, Alcaline considered two manufacturers, but Schmitz Cargobull’s proven manufacturing quality and product reliability were the decisive factors in securing the order.
Lorenzo Zaccheo, Managing Director of Alcaline, says: “Running an extensive UK and European-wide operation, it is essential for us to be able to access parts for our trailers anywhere on the continent, in the unlikely event of a failure occurring. Schmitz Cargobull’s extensive service network gives us complete peace of mind.
“Also key to this order was the availability of the hydraulic lifting roof, which gives us the flexibility to vary our running height, depending on the load we are carrying and whether we are operating in the UK or on the continent. When we need extra load space we raise the roof; and when we don’t, we can lower it down to make the trailer as aerodynamic as possible – and meaning we save fuel over every kilometre of the journey.”
The new S.CS MEGA trailers offer all of the advantages of a regular curtainsider, but with the VARIOS® Top Technology allowing the roof to be raised on one or both sides for forklift loading, or slid open for time-saving crane loading through the roof. Being height-adjustable, the roof allows the customer to utilise the maximum vehicle height in every European country – regardless of the fifth wheel height of the tractor – with hook and loop fasteners on the curtains permitting easy adjustment for different body heights.
The new trailers have also been specified with a lifting axle to reduce rolling resistance and tyre wear when carrying lighter loads. A double deck system ensures capacity for transporting up to 67 pallets in a single journey.
Each of the new trailers is also fitted with Schmitz Cargobull’s ROTOS® running gear, which features a complete range of unique innovations as standard, including a maintenance-free bearing, an innovative ventilation system for the disc brakes, the weight-optimised brake calliper, the multi-ride-height pneumatic suspension for every ramp height along with the standard trailer EBS (Electronic Braking System) with RSP (Roll Stability Program).
Operating in Alcaline’s distinctive company livery, they will be on the road for approximately 60 hours per week and will remain in service for seven years.
Founded in 1993 Alcaline specialises in daily deliveries into Italy and the Netherlands. Other countries are served with established partners in France, Belgium, Germany and Spain, whilst new developments regularly take Alcaline vehicles into Austria, Switzerland and Poland.
With its headquarters in Lympne, Kent, on the M20 near the Eurotunnel, Alcaline also operates overseas bases in Turin in Italy and Eede in the Netherlands.
