NH Case – a nationwide supplier of frozen foods to the public and private sectors – has selected refrigerated bodies from Schmitz Cargobull for two new 15 tonne rigid trucks set to carry out multi-drop deliveries in London’s Low Emission Zone (LEZ).

The Wincanton-based company says it favours the build quality and longevity of Schmitz Cargobull rigid bodies, which have been initially mounted to MAN TGMs but are anticipated to be transferred to new chassis during the course of their lives on the fleet.

Tony Thick, Transport Manager, NH Case said: “Whilst Schmitz Cargobull is certainly more renowned for its trailer products in the UK, we continue to be impressed with the robustness of its truck bodywork. Having tried several alternatives over the past few years, nothing has quite hit the mark like these in terms of quality, durability or upfront investment.

“With the new environmental regulations for transport in central London coming into play, we had to review our fleet and source appropriate equipment. Schmitz Cargobull was the natural choice given the performance of existing assets,” he added.

As with Schmitz Cargobull’s reefer trailers, its rigid bodies are also constructed using the company’s patented FERROPLAST®technology. This is a high-quality expanded, closed cell, polyurethane foam which is housed between steel skins. A special adhesive joining process ensures completely vapour diffusion-tight surfaces which are energy efficient, hygienic and age-resistant.

The two new trucks – which will take the NH Case fleet to a total of 15 refrigerated rigid trucks – both feature undermounted Carrier Transicold Supra 850 fridge units. The company believes these units will offer added health and safety benefits as well as low noise operation for driver comfort.

Further specifications to the vehicles include sliding internal curtains to retain temperature integrity in the load space – particularly crucial for multi-drop operations – load lock, additional lighting and underslung tail-lifts.
