Britaniacrest Recycling has taken delivery of the first new Schmitz Cargobull S.KI tipper trailer to be delivered in the UK, just weeks after the manufacturer debuted its extended trailer range at Tip-Ex 2013 in Harrogate.

The recycling and waste management firm chose Schmitz Cargobull from a shortlist of two manufacturers due to the build quality and durability of the S.KI 24 3AT 9.6 trailer.

The new fleet addition is used primarily for transporting concrete and hardcore materials from construction and demolition sites across London and the South East to its 15-acre recycling facility in Hookwood, near Gatwick. It is also used for moving sand from its quarry in Storrington, and will be in operation five and a half days per week.

Chris Foss, Director at Britaniacrest Recycling, says: “We found ourselves getting busier and busier on the aggregate removal side, so we decided to bring in a new tipper trailer and see how it performs. When we went to market we were looking for a steel trailer that could carry the vast array of material we deal with every day.

“Schmitz Cargobull’s new S.KI tipper model ticked all the boxes for us. It is the perfect size and build to cater for all of our aggregate and waste transportation requirements and had everything we needed in terms of specification.

“We operate a diverse and wide-ranging fleet, but this is the first tipper trailer that we have had. Whilst it is still early days, it is delivering exceptionally on all fronts. It has stood up really well to operating in the harsh environments of construction and demolition sites, doing a diverse range of work.”

Manufactured at Schmitz Cargobull’s Gotha plant in Germany, the trailer features a weight-optimised rounded steel half-pipe body for short-distance use and frequent tipping, with a 6mm floor and 5mm sidewalls for the heavy duty building industry operations. It is also fitted with a top hung tail gate and a sliding roller tarpaulin cover to prevent loads from being blown away and to maximise aerodynamic efficiency.

The trailer, which will be kept in service for at least five years, is also equipped with Schmitz Cargobull’s ROTOS® running gear, which features a complete range of innovations as standard, including a maintenance-free bearing, a ventilation system for the disc brakes, a weight-optimised brake calliper and the standard trailer EBS (Electronic Braking System) with RSP (Roll Stability Program).

Britaniacrest Recycling, a family business formed in 1993, runs a 39-strong commercial vehicle fleet, including eight-wheel rigid tippers, refuse collection vehicles, skip-loaders and multiple artics, operating primarily with walking floor trailers.
