Temperature Controlled Storage & Distribution (TCS&D) 2013, Stands D27, D28 and V3, Peterborough Arena, 18/19 September

Schmitz Cargobull’s new M.KO rigid reefer body is making its UK show debut alongside two of the company’s newest tri-axle trailers at the TCS&D exhibition at the Peterborough Arena. The German manufacturer has taken more than 126m2of prime floor space across three stands to exhibit its latest product range.

The refrigerated 4.2m long M.KO dual-compartment box body is expected to prove a major show attraction, following the announcement earlier this year that dry-freight bodybuilder Bevan Group has begun assembling rigid reefers in theUKusing Schmitz Cargobull components.

The reefer body comes fitted with a rear roller shutter and mounted to a 5.2 tonne chassis. The body is also equipped with a range of features unique to Schmitz Cargobull including bolted and galvanised sub-frames, and high-performance energy efficient and age-resistant FERROPLAST® panels.

Paul Avery, Managing Director of Schmitz Cargobull, says: “Whilst we are best known in theUKfor our semi-trailer product range, we manufacture thousands of rigid body reefers every year for operators in mainlandEurope. Together with Bevan’s expertise in the rigid body market, we can now offer rigid fleet operators and commercial vehicle dealers the guarantee of high quality reefer bodies backed-up by industry leading support.”

Dual-temperature reefer trailer

Alongside the new rigid box body is the company’s innovative S.KO COOL refrigerated trailer, which comes mounted with a dual-temperature refrigeration unit and a Schmitz moving bulkhead. The trailer is built with FERROPLAST panels utilising the latest NX 17 foam technology for improved insulation and body strength. The trailer’s unique joint-free in-process corner capping system ensures a water tight seal to maintain thermal efficiency.

The trailer features a strengthened rear-end, including reinforced compression roller buffers and full width rubber block buffers to meet UK fleet requirements for a long service life, even in the most demanding 24/7 supermarket applications. Further damage prevention is provided by a reversing system with driver assistant braking function.

With health and safety at the forefront of every business, the trailer is also fitted with the Schmitz Umbilical Sliding Interface – better known as a SUSI rail.

Specifically designed for operating in low noise environments, the trailer has a unique aluminium ‘’low noise’’ floor surface which has been developed by Schmitz and certified to PIEK requirements.

The S.KO COOL reefer sits approximately 100mm lower at the front than a comparable competitor trailer, whilst maintaining the same internal working height dimensions. The reduction in overall height decreases the frontal area by approximately 2.4 per cent, cutting aerodynamic drag force by the same amount, which tests show can result in fuel savings of around 1.2 per cent – equating to approximately £700 - £1,000 per annum.
