‘TRAILERCONNECT’ SECURES SUSTAINABILITY AWARD
Schmitz Cargobull AG has won the European Transport Award for Sustainability in the ‘Telematics’ category with its ‘TrailerConnect’ trailer telematics solution.
Ulrich Schöpker, Schmitz Cargobull AG board member and Managing Director of Cargobull Telematics GmbH, accepted the award at the ceremony in Munich last week (19 November). The innovative telematics system transmits real-time data from the cargo area and the running gear via satellite.
Commenting on the prestigious award win, Ulrich Schöpker explains: "TrailerConnect ensures that the customer is always informed about the condition of the cargo and the trailer. It enables the fleet to be operated as efficiently as possible, whilst protecting both the load and the environment."
The system makes the combined temperature and performance data from the cargo area, along with the vehicle's operating data and geographical position, available in real time. The software analyses the information and displays the results for the customer in a customisable online portal.
Schmitz Cargobull has designed TrailerConnect to help customers prevent against claims arising from cargo damage due to temperature deviations in the cargo area, whilst also guarding against vehicle damage due to incorrectly scheduled maintenance intervals. The software reports excessively high brake pad wear and independently reminds fleet schedulers of the next inspection date.
"Our trailer telematics system can be specified on new trailers or retrofitted onto existing fleet assets. As well as reducing the driver's workload, it increases cost transparency and delivers documented safety and security," says Schöpker.
The European Transport Awards for Sustainability are decided by an independent panel of experts, consisting of those from industrial and scientific fields, trade associations and media with an in-depth knowledge of the commercial vehicle sector.
This is not the first time Schmitz Cargobull has been a winner in these awards – in 2011 the jury presented Schmitz Cargobull with the sustainability award in the "Trailers and semi-trailers" category for its ECOCARGO commercial vehicle concept.
