A Conference on the Digital Future of the EU in Stockholm
On April 30, the Embassy of Latvia to Sweden and the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise (Svenskt Näringsliv) in cooperation with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), The Employers’ Confederation of Latvia (LDDK), and The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) are organising a conference on the digital future of the EU, as a part of the Latvian EU Presidency programme.
The conference will cover all three top priorities of the Latvian EU Presidency: Competitive Europe, Digital Europe, and Global Europe. The main objectives of the conference are to come forward with a message and recommendations for the EU and the countries of the Baltic Sea region regarding the advantages of the digital economy as well as the policies required at the EU and member-state level in order to increase the European competiveness, and to kick off a discussion on creation of a platform for Latvian and Swedish cooperation within the area of digital economy that would be sustained through cooperation between the Baltic and Nordic business confederations.
During the conference, speakers and discussants will exchange their views on political aspects, business opportunities and the business organisation solutions of the European digital future. The event will bring together high-level representatives of the European Commission, governmental institutions of Latvia and Sweden as well as entrepreneurial confederations of both countries, including Mr Andrus Ansip, Vice President of the European Commission for the Digital Single Market, Mr Mehmet Kaplan, Minister for Housing and Urban Development and Information Technology of Sweden, Mr Kaspars Gerhards, Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Latvia, Mr. Arnis Daugulis, Undersecretary of State (ICT & eGovernment) at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Latvia, Mrs Carola Lemne, Director General, the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, and Mrs Liga Mengelsone, Director General, the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia (LDDK). Companies including iZettle, Serendipity, Governo, Lattelecom, Blue bridge and Tilde will engage in discussions about the opportunities of digital growth and the policy framework required to achieve it. Approximately 150 entrepreneurs, governmental officials, media representatives and diplomats are expected to attend the conference.
