Entrepreneurial venture seeking to accelerate the transition to CO2-free steel

H2 Green Steel (“H2GS”) is proud to announce that Mark Bula has joined the Swedish green impact startup as Chief Commercial Officer. H2GS will be a large-scale steel producer based on a fossil-free manufacturing process. Located in the Boden-Luleå region in northern Sweden, the company’s first site offers unique conditions for fossil-free steel production, including the conditions needed for a world-first giga-scale green hydrogen plant, as an integrated part of the steel production facility. Production is set to begin in 2024 and will have steady-date annual production capacity of five million tons of high-quality steel by 2030.

Bula will lead commercial efforts for the company, recruiting and developing a team of commercial and customer experience experts who are as passionate about serving customers as they are about serving the planet. He is currently working as part of the fundraising and investor activities team, which has already raised over $105 million USD in its Series A funding round.

“We’re building a world-class team with the best talent from around the globe, and we are very proud to have Mark on board,” said Henrik Henriksson, Chief Executive Officer of H2 Green Steel. “Mark is a renowned leader with a passion for building strong partnerships with customers. His experience with strategic development, along with his ability to positively position companies via his commercial and sales efforts, will prove essential to our mission to accelerate the decarbonization of steelmaking.”

Bula previously served as Chief Revenue Officer and Chief Commercial Officer at Big River Steel, one of the fastest ramp-ups of a new flat-rolled steel mill and the only LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified steel production facility. During the start-up phase, Bula’s commercial team captured 100 of the top 250 customers by leveraging the advantages of a new, contemporary steel business focused on technology.

“After all these years in the industry, I certainly consider myself a steel guy,” said Bula. “So, I can say this as an insider: How we produce steel must fundamentally change to provide our customers, and thereby end consumers, truly green steel with no carbon emissions. Just as mini-mills once disrupted the industry, we must once again take a monumental leap forward. I am proud to be part of the H2GS team who is leading the way.”
