Flip the perspective – The manager and the employee

Report this content

There are thousands up on thousands of books about being a manager and a leader, and management/manager courses and philosophies. On the other hand there are only a handful about being an employee, and most of them have a ”mistreatment perspective”. This gap in management literature was noticed by Christer Ackerman and this is why he wrote his highly successful book Chefen och medarbetaren (The manager and the employee) for the Swedish market in 2008 and has won the title ”Leadership book of the year”. Since its been published, demands and requests from the international market has been immense, therefore its now translated into English and available via Hoi Publishing and Amazon.

This book takes in regards the important interaction between both sides of an organisation. The interaction that, at its most efficient, boosts job satisfaction and profitability.

The manager and the employee takes the reader on a ground breaking journey on which practical tips and philosophical ideas are blended in a thought-provoking and interesting style, increasing the insight that the manager and employee are different sides of the same coin that must be seen as deeply integrated rather than as isolated phenomena. This prepares the ground for a better and more effective interaction between the manager and the employee, which in turn improves job satisfaction and profitability.

The book is written with intimacy, depth and humour, often weaving together mini anecdotes and philosophical observations across the chapters.

- The manager and the employee is particularly interesting in the way it also focuses on the employee, which isn’t that common for leadership manuals. Abundant practical examples give weight to the many thought-provoking ideas it contains. A book well worth reading.- Percy Barnevik, member of The Royal Academy of Engineering and leader of Hand in Hand.

The author Christer Ackerman has many prestige titles on his resume: Head of National Correctional Treatment in Stockholm, lawyer, plant manager at SAS, hotel owner, prizewinning author, public speaker, strategique counsellor and management consultant. It’s the development and growth that makes him tick. And he has also tried his hand at crime writing with he debut B5 – a Douglas Porter story. He lives outside Stockholm with his wife, Helena.

More about Hoi Publishing:

Hoi Publishing was established in late 2010 by Sölve Dahlgren, Ann Ljungberg and Lars Rambe. At the time they were finalising a book on book publishing and this gave the idea to Lars and Sölve to explore the possibilities in actually helping writers to reach their goals instead of merely providing the advice.

Hoi Publishing has what seems to be a unique model for book publishing combining the best in traditional and self-publishing. The author invests in the publication of his/her book and in return receives the major part of any profits. The whole process is handled professionally and only scripts with clear potential and literary quality are accepted for publication.

The Hoi way is strongly focused on the author and his or her instrumental role in making the book a success. Marketing plans are always made based on the skills and network of the author then to be complemented by the support and contacts of the publishing house.

Hoi is experiencing rapid growth as more and more writers see the benefit of pursuing their dreams in collaboration with a publisher created by writers for writers.
