ECPAT Sweden launches its book “The Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children” (JURE Law Books). The book provides an overview of child sex tourism, child pornography and trafficking of minors for sexual purposes, as well as an historical overview and examples of the work of the ECPAT movement.

The book “The Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children” was first launched at a seminar in the European Parliament in Brussels on the 24th of May 2011. The event was hosted by the Member of the European Parliament Mr Alf Svensson, and the main speaker was EU Commissioner Ms Cecilia Malmstrom.

A global sex trade is ongoing where the bodies of children are sold and bought like any merchandise. Millions of children are victims. The demand for sex with children is the main driving force in this cynical and lucrative trade that knows no borders. The “goods” can either be sent to the offender (trafficking), or else the offender travels to a destination where the victims are supplied at low cost and low risk (child sex tourism). The offences are documented and sold (child pornography).

Knowledge is a basis for change. ECPAT hopes that this book will be a useful tool for all those who work for children’s rights against commercial sexual exploitation of children.

ECPAT is a global network of organisations and individuals working together for the elimination of commercial sexual exploitation of children, i e child pornography, child sex tourism and the trafficking of children for sexual purposes.
