Kvarnholmen Utveckling AB (KUAB), which is jointly owned by Peab and JM, has signed a lease agreement with 1912 Hotels, a global hotel company and IHG Hotels & Resorts. The lease agreement is for 20 years.

With the new hotel on Kvarnholmen, guests will enjoy a unique waterfront stay, right at the harbor gateway to Stockholm, with easy access to the city center and excellent transport connections. The hotel will comprise 11,000 square meters and feature 232 rooms, a rooftop terrace with a pool, a restaurant, a spa and conference facilities. The hotel will operate under the Hotel Indigo by IHG brand.

– It is very pleasing that we have signed an agreement with a global hotel operator. Together with IHG Hotels & Resorts and 1912 Hotels, Kvarnholmen will have a unique hotel concept that further strengthens Stockholm as an attractive destination to visit, says Johan Gyllberg, Regional Manager Peab Bostad and representative of the board of KUAB.

The concept and architecture for the hotel is developed by Tobias Hindersson at Urban Responsibility AB.

KUAB has signed the lease agreement with the German hotel operator 1912 Hotels, which in turn has a franchise agreement with the hotel operator IHG. IHG is listed on both the London Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange and is one of the world's largest hotel companies. The agreement term is 20 years.

– We are excited to bring Hotel Indigo to Stockholm with our first signing in Sweden for the brand. Kvarnholmen is a neighbourhood with incredible character - blending industrial heritage with modern Scandinavian design - making it a natural fit for a brand built around local storytelling. Sweden offers strong and growing appeal for both international and domestic travellers, and this signing reflects the momentum we're building across IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio in the Nordics. We're excited to be partnering with Peab and JM, alongside 1912 Hotels, for the first time and look forward to introducing guests to the unique story of this waterfront district, says Miguel Martins, Head of Development, Northern Europe, at IHG Hotels & Resorts.

– The signing of Hotel Indigo Kvarnholmen marks an important milestone for 1912 Hotels and our continued growth across the Nordic region. The combination of an exceptional waterfront location, strong local character, and the globally recognised Hotel Indigo brand creates a unique opportunity to develop one of Stockholm’s most distinctive lifestyle hospitality destinations. We are delighted to be partnering with IHG; Peab and JM on this exciting project and look forward to bringing it to life over the coming years, says Audun Lekve CEO 1912 Hotels.

The hotel is scheduled to start production in 2027 and the building is expected to be completed in 2029. KUAB intends to shortly initiate a sales process for the property.
