Melody launches unique mobile remote control of the intelligent home in cooperation with Nordic Alarm Melody Interactive Solutions in collaboration with the security systems supplier Nordic Alarm are together among the first in the world to make remote control of consumer products available via mobile phones. The agreement provides for Melody Embedded WAP Server to be installed in Nordic Alarm's Nordic SmartBox, which is an alarm, control and telematics system for the intelligent home or office. "We believe in a strong development of the mobile phone as universal remote control in both industry and consumer contexts," says Ulf Änggård, President and CEO of Melody Interactive Solutions. "The collaboration with Nordic Alarm is an exciting example of this type of development, and it will give operators the opportunity to offer a whole range of useful services." The Nordic SmartBox is the world's first consumer product with an integrated WAP server on an 8-bit processor. The incorporation of Melody Embedded WAP Server into the Nordic SmartBox turns mobile phones into personal alarm centers that advise the user directly via SMS if an alarm goes off. The system can be controlled from the mobile telephone via the WAP server wherever there is GSM coverage. For example, the user can switch the alarm on or off, control energy consumption, check on temperatures, or unlock doors. The system will be ready for delivery in May this year. "We are proud to present a system for the intelligent home that works already today," says Jens Lennen, CEO of Nordic Alarm. "Melody's Embedded WAP Server gives the SmartBox system even greater flexibility for remote monitoring and control of the intelligent home." Melody Embedded WAP Server is a software for wireless communication that can be easily integrated into various hardware environments, both in consumer and industry products. It follows standardized communications protocols, which means that regular WAP phones can be used. Other examples of use of Melody Embedded WAP Server are in industrial equipment, automotive systems, and consumer electronics. "The collaboration with Nordic Alarm is a step towards the intelligent home with which we will be able to communicate via telephony or Bluetoothtm," concludes Linus Dalin, CTO at Melody Interactive Solutions. Melody Embedded WAP Server and Nordic SmartBox will be demonstrated on Melody's stand E36(4) in hall 15 at the CeBIT exhibition in Hanover on March 22 - 28, 2001.
