PolarCool and United Rugby Championship collaborate with the aim of introducing PolarCap® System
The medical technology company PolarCool continues to pursue the establishment of PolarCap® System in international rugby, with the company announcing that they are exploring a potential league agreement with the United Rugby Championship (URC).
PolarCool develops the product PolarCap® System, which alleviates the effects of concussions. The primary customers are sports clubs and facilities in ice hockey, rugby, football, and handball, but also other sports with an increased risk of concussion.
The United Rugby Championship is one of the world's most prominent professional rugby leagues, including the best teams from five different international countries and across hemispheres, spanning Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Italy, and South Africa.
The United Rugby Championship has conducted a thorough analysis of the evidence surrounding hyperthermia, concussion, and cooling as a treatment, led by its Medical Advisor Dr. Michael Dunlop, which included a medical meeting held in Edinburgh on August 23rd. The meeting was attended by Erik Andersson and Jamie Bache of PolarCool and some of professional rugby’s key medical personnel, the meeting was also attended by some of the world’s leading researchers in the concussion field.
The collaboration is centered on exploring the introduction of PolarCap® System for this upcoming season (2023/2024) with a number of teams across the competition, with the participating teams being able to provide treatment with PolarCap® System. Discussions between the URC and PolarCool have also included the potential league-wide implementation of PolarCap® System for the 2024/2025 season, alongside conducting a one-of-a-kind scientific research project.
